I have found that one of the keys to consistency is incorporating things you love into daily life. If you’re constantly forcing yourself to show up for tasks you find no enjoyment in then willpower will only take you so far. The same goes with our nutrition. If we find no joy in the food we are making and sharing with those we love then “eating healthy” will only last so long. I LOVE chocolate chip cookies and enjoying a fresh baked treat from time to time helps me maintain around 80% more nutrient dense foods the remaining times. I do however, look for ways I can give that sweet treat a little nutrient punch too. In fact, there are SO many amazing foods in nature that are incredibly delicious and perfect to add into traditional recipes for added nutrients + in my opinion, even better taste than the originals.

These almond flour cookies are the perfect example. I swap regular flour for almond flour to enhance the fiber and healthy fat intake + maple syrup in place of granulated sugars. Now sugar is sugar but I’m always happy if I can find a less processed option. These two swaps give this recipe a chewy texture that is unmatched!
While having traditional recipes from time to time will not set you back in your health goals at all, why not look for ways we can have those sweet treats AND feel great at the same time! Enjoy!
